Steps to start your own website (Non-Techie)

Before anything, you should first need to get a clear idea of what you want on your website. Do you want a website just to show information about an idea? Do you want a website for a blog? Do you want a website to implement an innovative idea? Do you want a website that requires user logins? Do you want a website which will need online transactions to happen?

Maintaining a website has become very easy these days. You can get templates from many different sites like WordPress, Godaddy, Wix, etc… They provide you with a huge number of templates with a number of services embedded in them whether it’s a blog or eCommerce or informational based website.

If you are a non-tech person, then I would suggest you to go pick these web platforms where you will have easy access to buy a domain, choose a template, write your content, post your pictures, and publish your website to the domain name you desire.

Steps:

Layout your idea and business requirements:

Layout your ideas and gathering business requirements is the key requirement to initialize your website. Without proper planning you cannot achieve proper outcome. This saves a lot of time while proceeding with your next steps.

Check for the availability of desired domain name in any Domain Name Registrar (Ex: Godaddy): Depending on your idea or business name, you need to look for availability of domain name. One such place to look for domain name availability is Godaddy. There are many others but as of now I am picking Godaddy as it is a popular one. I will post other resources too next time. Google search the name and see if anyone else is using your desired name and if you confirm that its not present in the outside world, then go ahead with that name.

Purchase the domain:

When you purchase the domain name, it is better to choose .com, but if yours is an organization or any other related field, then you can pick .org or others.

Domain Name Privacy:

Make sure you opt for Domain Name Privacy as to protect your information from the internet.

SSL certificate:

You need to purchase a SSL certificate for your website as to show your users that your website is secured to visit without any issues. SSL certificate will show a “Lock” symbol with “https” on your domain name.

Select Template:

Once you have Domain ready, then you can choose to host your website from the same domain registrar’s company which makes your life easy in setting up your website quickly. Depending on your requirement, and category of your business or idea, choose your template from the given options. (These days many domain registrars are providing web hosting service various templates for all categories of the business)

Unique Content:

Your content should be unique and not be copied from other resources as it will be considered as a scrapped content. Stand out from others and be special and be consistent with content.

Tips for marketing:

Create social media profiles for your businesses and start sharing your content to capture your customers from social media at your website. You can also use Facebook and Instagram sponsoring tools to market your products and increase your customers for very few $$$.
